We all grew up on dial-up internet. AOL Online, please tell me you remember this! A yellow figure speeding to get you connected to the online world. There was a sound too, I think. Kinda like a fax machine.
Anyways- I miss the feeling of limitless. Scouring through page after page of templates for MySpace, determined to find the perfect aesthetic to match our angsty teenage vibe.
The summer before 6th grade I was itching to hop on the family computer every single morning. Windows Media Player and PacMan. Microsoft Word. Limewire.
Yes, I wrote fan-fiction. Yes it was Twilight.
Tumblr in 2011. Instagram the year later.
Our interests, memories, thoughts and opinions have (almost) all been documented on the internet since the beginning of its time.
We have grown up with the internet.
And we are still here.
As I take a step back and take in my digital footprint, I ask myself what I wish to make of the space I hold online.
What do I want to do? What do I want to say? Why do I keep coming back?
For community. For inspiration. To witness the beautiful lives that everyone around the world are living. My family and my friends.
For awareness and education. The limitless power of knowledge and learning something new. To change my perspective.
For art and music. The universal languages of the world.
To extend our voices and speak into an abyss.
The internet is an entirely new universe in itself.
I am here to blog and do whatever the hell I want to do with this space. Whether you read this or not, for the most part I am doing this for myself- mostly because I miss writing articles on my laptop.
But also for the nostalgia of it all.
I love you. I love life and I love Churro.
